A Word From Our President September 2010
Howdy, Well August was a great and busy month. At the Monthly Dinner Meeting we heard Barry Rogers and Ken Howard present Improving Team Dynamics. They were very informative, teaching the audience different types of dynamics within team members, including identifying what type we would be. Also during the month, we partnered with UTD to put on the 4th annual Project Management Symposium. Attendees to the symposium were enlightened by several key note speakers, with two of the topics covering the Parkland Hospital move/expansion and another covering the Trinity River Project, which spans across most of Dallas County. There were over 40 speakers at the two day symposium, which provided each attendee many different courses to choose from for each of their sessions. Once again UTD put on a top notch symposium and we are glad to continue to be a part of this event.
At this month's Dinner Meeting the chapter will be voting to appoint three candidates to the Vice President positions for Communications, Education and Marketing. There were not any candidates that came forward for the Vice President of Operations & Support or the Vice President of Programs. Since we have moved the vote to September from November, more time will be allowed to find the right persons for these two positions. Another great reason to come to the September Monthly Meeting besides participating in the chapter voting process is to hear Dr. James Brown present Change Management: The Undercover Role of the Project Manager. Dr. Brown is an internationally recognized speaker and practitioner of Project Management. Dr. Brown holds patents for a project scheduling methodology as well as numerous awards for the work he has done. We look forward to what Dr. Brown will present to us on Change Management.
The Board is continuing to work on the new web site. Currently we are in the site building and testing phase of the project, but hurdles have been crossed and issues have been mitigated. Next, we will continue to perform testing to ensure our members are not impacted by small issues. There has not been an estimated delivery date to the members set yet. I will get back to you with this date as soon as I know it.
As noted in the past, the Board is also continuing to work on some of the infrastructure chapter documents. As we get closer to being able to releasing some of these documents or are ready to request a vote on the changes of these documents, I will let you know.
Continue to come back and read the newsletter throughout the year. I will continue updating you on how the Board of Directors is working to improve our organization so we can meet the needs of our members while reaching out to organizations and our community; therefore making Project Management indispensable for business results.
Be sure to check out the chapter on Facebook, LinkedIn, and now Twitter.
